Beach clean-up event in France
Date of Publication:

On 24 June, 50 primary school students from Boulogne-sur-mer, on the French North coast took part in the Plastic Pirates campaign. They were introduced to this initiative through the TREASURE Interreg North Sea project while working on a yearly project with a focus on plastic pollution. The existing river protocol was adapted to the seaside to gather information and collect data on the quantity and the type of pollution found on the beach.

The results showed significative differences between the type of pollution found on the riverbanks and the ones sampled on the beach such as fishing gears and nets.

The morning was also an opportunity to (re)discover the sea leash, which concentrates traces of marine life and illustrates the pervasiveness of plastic in our oceans.
